A Hero and a Sociopath: Three Questions That the Mainstream Media Won't Ask About the Killing of Walter Scott

If you have not yet watched MSNBC's interview with Feidin Santana, the gentleman who recorded the killing of Walter Scott by the thug cop Michael Slager, I encourage you to do so.

A hero is someone who puts themselves at great personal risk, does not have specific training for the task, and is not paid to do so.

Mr. Santana is a hero.

As clearly demonstrated by their centuries-long habit of killing unarmed and/or surrendered black and brown people, America's police are not heroes. Some of them may occasionally act in a brave way; but, not all brave acts are heroic.

The news media has made the murder of Michael Scott into a spectacle. The video of Scott's murder is a 21st century type of lynching photograph and postcard. Every time the video is shown, the mental, physical, and emotional health of Black America is assaulted. This is psychic warfare and terrorism.

Just as the killer cop Darren Wilson casually stood over Michael Brown's dead body in the street, Michael Slager appears to show no panic or upset after he guns down Walter Scott.

Soldiers will often have a breakdown or show other signs of visible emotional distress after they kill another human being in battle.

These police officers are calm, cool, collected, and unmoved.

Some questions.

I wonder, was Slager's calm and detached behavior a reflection of his police training and cultural conditioning regarding the use of force against black people?

Are Slager and other cops who kill in a similar manner sociopathic?

Has Michael Slager killed someone before and successfully covered it up, thus his slaying of Walter Scott is an old habit?

The mainstream corporate media will not ask those important questions. It is time that the American people force this issue, as the colorline is not just about justice for people of color, but a life and death matter for the Common Good.

As always concise and thought provoking. They are looping the footage on a number of stations and now I just turn it off. It assaults the psyche and makes me nauseous for he (cop) stands there like he killed an animal. No effort to turn him over although he and the fellow black officer that showed up after the murder made subsequent false reports of assistance. There was no CPR done.

I trust and hope that the young man who videotaped the murder will remain safe for he showed great courage by providing the footage.

Many advocate more cops of color, however, they become a part of the culture and as we've noticed in the past; they become complicit in the cover-ups. And, they also engage in harassing behaviors as well. It's painful but it's true and we must realize that there are many blacks who hold an extreme disdain for other people of color and they are recruited into police departments. As I've said many times where does the weary soul go for justice and peace.

I am quite concerned that what we see in that video is not enough to convict the coward Slager for murder.

Based on a pair of legal standards established by past Supreme Court decisions, an officer only has to have an "objectively reasonable" belief that there is a threat.

Apparently there are plenty of cases where an officer might be legally justified in using deadly force because he feels threatened, even though there's no actual threat there.

In other words we have laws and legal standards that abet sociopaths to kill when they please. One only has to say they felt threatened. How can it be proven otherwise? It cannot.

Any reasonable person should be able to look at that video and see that, at best the killing was unjustified and at worst, it's just plain murder. But I'm afraid you may be correct. That "fear for life" test is so broad; how can you prove someone wasn't scared?

I'm no lawyer, but I think the catch to that is, "within reason.". Was it reasonable for Slager to be in fear for his life in that moment? Reason says no, but given the bias that exists for cops, with the right jury he could be right.

If Slager gets away with this, there won't be any doubt: a black man does not have any rights to life if a police officer so decides.

Slager's calmness looks like a indicator of sociopathy as well as premeditated murder. There was no regret, no remorse and no surprise as to the outcome after he shot Walter Scott (Rest in Peace WS). There's no doubt in my mind that Slager was outraged before he shot WS for a black man's lack of deference to a white cop. I don't think that's a valid or legal defence. After the murder, could Slager's calmness show only self-preservation? I really don't think so as there wasn't so much as a bow of his head for his victim. Whiteness is a disease...

They won't ask those questions. I'm not shocked they cancelled slager's gofundme account. This whole show, like always, is Amerikkka throwing us a bone. Darren Wilson's account didn't get cancelled w/identical circumstances.

They move the pigs' fund to indigogo and is already receiving revenue.

"This in no way reflects the people of this department... How can the racist motive of an individual be indicative of an entire race or police dept.? You see they prosecuting the cop, don't cha ?"

This time. This time, they have clear footage not grainy truck stop/corner store footage. Even w/footage the only suspicious activity slager did in their eyes was plant a taser. Had that not been recorded they would have wormed their way out of this modern day lynching creating a false narrative about what transpired before the recording.

Please keep eyes on Santana. W/Mike Brown's friends/witnesses 'disappearing' after his lynching w/o so much as a drop of coverage, you damn right his life in danger.

So it's April... And we're only, what? 300 police murders against mostly black citizens and ONE pending conviction? He won't get the chair nor needle. Cops no matter how far left they veer left never get punishments that match their crime. 300 to 1.

As w/this pilot the media refuses to label a terrorist, they'll acknowledge slager's crime, b/c they have to, but will shed light on his "exemplary police work." Watch.

Fucking Awesome.

You gotta love amerikkkas progress.

I take that back Eric Garner had real clear footage of his lynching and that didn't yield a conviction either.

I've been so busy lately, but I read this after hearing about the killing of Scott:
"Our tribes introduce us to the concept of justice... Tribal justice maintains social order and can be summarized this way: it is just to seek revenge for harmful actions that are without cause; it is just to do all that is necessary to protect one's self and family; it is just to assist other family members in actions of protection or vengeance. It is unjust to put any family members at risk for personal gain; it is unjust to not follow through on a tribal command; it is unjust to assist anyone whom the tribe recognizes as a threat. The injunction against bringing any shame upon the family exerts an extremely controlling force over each member.
"When a tribal member accomplishes something of value to others, the other members automatically share an energy reward. It's not unusual for a tribal member to live off the power of another tribal member who has earned a public reputation.
... "When tribal justice obstructs our spiritual advancement we need to free ourselves from its authority over our individual power of choice. This challenge is one of the most difficult... because it often requires a physical separation from our family or from a group of people to which we have become attached."

This book is called Anatomy of the Spirit and it's about healing yourself through intuition using the chakra system of thought. I'm reading it for a yoga teacher training I'm in currently which is taking up a lot of my time but it's fantastic.
When I read that part the connection to white supremacy was just astounding.

while I understand your doubts that justice will prevail, I think both of you are over analyzing this. Under no circumstances can he use "In fear of his life" bullshit, when the video plainly shows the victim running AWAY, and there are 5 holes in the mans back. Now if there wasn't a video, I would share your concerns.

Gable1111 said...

Given that we have had video before, particularly in the case of Garner, we know the existence of video doesn't guarantee anything. Logic says it should, but history and reality says it's not unreasonable to be wary.

ronn214 said...

I appreciate your concerns. And I agree that even with video's cops get off (Rodney King, Eric Garner) but those two "could" have been subject to interpretation. Kings attempts to protect himself and get to cover was used as "See, he keeps trying to get up" Well Hell yeah, who's gonna lay down there and get the crap beat out of them. Same thing with Garner. But I have to say, if this guy gets off, even at my advanced age, I just might get out there and go nuts!

The heavy rotation of the video showing the officer's complete lack of empathy is also indicative of the official policy of general demoralization. Its a psychic assault on blacks in particular but it also is an attack on morality in general. The initiative to normalize pathology goes to the antinomianism of the elites who are in charge. Not sense the live coverage of the Hurricane Katrina aftermath has the public been subjected to such visual mortification. This is not to argue that it shouldn't be shown but viewing ideally should be informed by the media's ulterior motives.
