It is That Time of Year: If You are Feeling Kind and Indulgent Do Please Donate to Chauncey Devega and We Are Respectable Negroes During Our Annual Fundraising Drive

In my best, pleasing, and most encouraging fundraising voice...

As long-time readers know, I do a twice a year fundraiser here on We Are Respectable Negroes (WARN).

I would first like to thank the good folks who have supported my online work throughout the year. Their kindness and generosity means a great deal to me.

As I say during our twice a year fundraising drive(s), WARN continues to move forward. While many blogs and similar projects have fallen off and died, the readership and reach of our site continues to remain steady--and in some ways has expanded.

In response to the requests of the friends of WARN, I have started a Youtube channel which features videos and other material from the site. I have also been more active on Twitter and have found that tool to be very helpful in sharing the good conversations and analysis that I believe are the strengths of WARN.

The podcast for WARN--which goes by the name "The Chauncey DeVega Show"--has been substantially upgraded. It now features much better audio, is on WARN's Youtube channel, and will soon be on Itunes. The Chauncey DeVega Show has some great guests either already recorded or scheduled. I am very impressed by the smart, interesting, and good folks that have agreed to appear on the show.

My work has continued to appear on Alternet and Salon. My analysis of the events in Ferguson have also been linked to and quoted by various online and other sources. Because of the kind encouragement and good energy of the friends of WARN, I have also begun taking my first forays into other types of media.

We Are Respectable Negroes and my other online work are labors of love. With very few exceptions, I am not paid for my writing on other sites. Likewise, my other media appearances are done without compensation. As followers of WARN know, I do not advertise on chaunceydevega.com or on the podcast series. I have had offers to feature paid for content, runs ads, product placements, etc. but stand by my decision to not do so. Independence is preferable to the promises and/or obligations that are made if one accepts advertising monies.

WARN's content is almost exclusively original. I rarely feature essays or analysis from other sites. I am not interested in being a news aggregator or link farm. Such sites have their place. I have chosen to offer analysis and content that I have authored.

This takes a substantial amount of time and energy. For example, a one hour long episode of the podcast takes about 3 hours to produce (some episodes may actually involve more time given the amount of editing required). If I proceed with my plans to offer The Chauncey DeVega Show once a week that is a substantial time commitment in addition to my other writing online, work, and myriad of obligations.

If you have enjoyed, learned from, and shared those online conversations with others, please do try to support WARN.

I am the worst fundraiser because I thank people prematurely and always tell folks to take care of home, family, pets, and self first. If you have a dollar or two--or more if you are feeling particularly generous--do throw it in at the Paypal link on the sidebar. It would be appreciated.

I would also like to take this opportunity to again thank all those folks who have supported WARN throughout the year.

Please do keep commenting, sharing, and boosting We Are Respectable Negroes. All of your helpful comments and other contributions are so very, very, very much appreciated. The fundraiser will go on for the remainder of the month. I will kindly remind folks of our annual donation drive without being too annoying...I promise. When we reach our goal, sooner rather than later I hope, the fundraiser will end. I have a fixed amount that I aim for in each fundraising drive. Once that fixed amount is reached, the fundraiser will end.

Thank you so very much for the support.
