This needs to stop regardless of ethnicity or political affiliation. We are too smart of a nation ... can we all just move forward together please?Ann Ciprianinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57113078446695664.post-47935422998073070772014-08-08T12:57:50.183-05:002014-08-08T12:57:50.183-05:00True. But like Obama and so many other politicians...True. But like Obama and so many other politicians have said "make me do it," which is to ask for an energized constituency. Despite the fact that voting is rigged I think its a poll that the power elite must consider. The liberal majority just has to re-establish itself. It can't abandon the ground to an ideology so despicable as conservatism.joe manningnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57113078446695664.post-1043553812358160852014-08-08T12:14:36.943-05:002014-08-08T12:14:36.943-05:00Had the liberal majority of the 50's and 60...Had the liberal majority of the 50's and 60's developed a fully funded welfare state, I think the country would have been spared the current rightist onslaught; and this denouement has always been common knowledge throughout the higher circles of power.

When the downturn hit, the federal government had no adequate safeguards to protect people, so out of desperation many turned to local rightist groupings, i.e. fundamentalist churches, the TP, and gun clubs. Conservatives immediately jumped on the fascist bandwagon, popularizing its rhetoric and propaganda, relentlessly exploiting its nostalgic happy talk.

If progressives are to foil the rightist hegemony we must at least get out the vote. Its a small but necessary step in humanity's evolution past tribalism toward an inclusive universalism.joe manningnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57113078446695664.post-84917364890392220522014-08-07T20:08:40.390-05:002014-08-07T20:08:40.390-05:00Mr. DeVega,

I ask because the two enterprising white entrepreneurs above just made yet another app for avoiding non-white areas of your town—and it's really taking off!

Crain's reports on SketchFactor, a racist app made for avoiding "sketchy" neighborhoods, which is the term young white people use to describe places where they don't feel safe because they watched all five seasons of The Wire:

SketchFactor, the brainchild of co-founders Allison McGuire and Daniel Herrington, is a Manhattan-based navigation app that crowdsources user experiences along with publicly available data to rate the relative "sketchiness" of certain areas in major cities. The app will launch on the iTunes on Friday, capping off a big week for the startup, which was named as a finalist in the NYC BigApps competition.

According to Ms. McGuire, a Los Angeles native who lives in the West Village, the impetus behind SketchFactor was her experience as a young woman navigating the streets of Washington, D.C., where she worked at a nonprofit.

[...]

After meeting Mr. Herrington, an electrical engineer who was taken with the SketchFactor idea, the two quit their Washington D.C.-based jobs and decamped to New York City with funding from family and friends.

As one of the finalists in the BigApps competition, SketchFactor is poised to receive more attention when it launches.

http://valleywag.gawker.com/smiling-young-white-people-make-app-for-avoiding-black-1617775138/+sambiddlerikyrahnoreply@blogger.com
