I'm not sure I agree with every single point, but you've given me a lot to think over -- much more than the talking heads on TV. I agree with the previous commenter that the President is in a horrible position. I also believe the troop increase was his decision and his alone, and for that he will have to bear responsibility.nikkihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00267140560512953124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57113078446695664.post-68764752960057960862009-12-03T19:17:47.789-06:002009-12-03T19:17:47.789-06:00Chauncey, I got your email and for some time have ...Chauncey, I got your email and for some time have been mulling over how to write about this. It'll probably be long (and long for me is pretty darn long), and pull from information of my pasts posts and or course, elsewhere.

I'll say here that I think the internal reasons for this war are very different from Vietnam or Iraq, leaving Barack between a rock and hard space.Kit (Keep It Trill)https://www.blogger.com/profile/03027769872237001801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57113078446695664.post-27522518845344779422009-12-03T10:22:53.626-06:002009-12-03T10:22:53.626-06:00Why Tar Baby? The last 2-3 sentences totally trashes anything you said on it being to early to judge.

Fact is Obama inherited a mess and to pull out NOW, like most want, would be absurd and further tarnish our international credibility. Russia and merrie old England learned this lesson a long time ago. You would think....Never mind.

Suffice to say, on my best day I do not receive one tenth of the information that President Obama receives. I don't read any of the Presidential Daily Briefings that are placed on his desk every morning. Obviously he is in possession of a wealth of intelligence that you and I are just not privy to. Maybe we should be giving him the benefit of the doubt - and I have been doing just that, I promise you. But from my vantage point it appears to me that this president has failed to learn the lessons that have been passed onto us down the decades by the administrations of Franklin Delano Rossevelt and Lyndon Baines Johnson - lessons involving bold action in times of economic crisis (more on that another day) and the utter folly of waging wars that cannot be won.

I want to believe in this president. He is the chief executive I worked harder to elect than any other in my lifetime. I realize that it is simply far too early in this administration to write a final assessment of his term of office. That being said, my confidence in the Obama White House is ebbing rapidly. Where in the hell is all of this change I could believe in? Is the Bush Mob still in charge? What gives?

NOTE TO THE RIGHT WING:

No, I am still exceedingly grateful that John McCain and Gidget von Braun did not win the election last year.
