Willie Horton 2011 Campaign Ad: "Give Us Your Cash Bitch" Courtesy of Tea Party Affiliated Group Turn Right USA

Once more why I am a bit of a Luddite. Nothing but bad can result from all of the excess computing power folks have on their home PCs.

[Is it that hard out there on the block? Do these brothers so desperately need to get their money that they would embarrass themselves in this way?]

I enjoy deconstructing campaign commercials in my classes. This gem against California councilwoman Janice Hahn is most certainly going to go in the hall of shame along with Carly Fiorina's demon sheep and Dan Fanelli's anti-Muslim suicide bomber racial profiling hit piece.

Please help me out with the semiotics of the Turn Right USA's advertisement as I cannot even begin to make sense of something so obvious. On one hand I want to call this ad genius in its unconscionable level of political pornography, woman hating, and race baiting. But then again I am loathe to dignify something so grotesque with the distinction of genius (is "expert" a better word?). Oh, what a conundrum.

In the Tea Party Right wing imagination, with its corrupted White soul, this is just one more unsurprising when "Giant Negroes Attack" episode served up with a little interracial sex for flavor and a healthy dose of moral panic for seasoning.

Ultimately, I love the myopia of the White Gaze and how it sees all black folks as universal, interchangeable thugs. It makes me feel a bit dangerous and wild--so much so that I may go out and scare some white people tonight. How exciting and fun!

Oh, Professor, I'm not sure you have it in you to scare people. Mere glaring and vague, deep-voiced rumblings don't do it, at least they don't do it for me. Truly frightening people are vibrating with an anxiousness to hurt you, and they have no fear themselves of being hurt or being arrested.

The guys in the video, I'm pretty sure that I could hang with them. I might even be the hit of the BBQ! Show them a little respect and they'll be fine.

The video, though. Further proof, if any were needed, that these Righties have way too much wind in their sails, and that their ideas are way too mainstream these days.

Can a cracka that grew up in Southwest Detroit and is a bit sensitive about that sort of stuff give a dissenting opinion here?

It ain't racist.

That's ol' cracka honky here said it ain't.

Here's why.

If the players in said had been white? Yeah, you know I'd been all over this one; even as a Conservative. (Which I am...)

But..

All the players in this were black, except for the candidate. So, that removes the racist element, in my humble opinion.

Is it silly? Much.

Does it exploit the hell outta stereo types. HELL YES!

But the creator of the video grew up with blacks; and so, that removes that argument.

Unless you are one of those Frankfort Institute Marxists. This is nothing more than silliness.

Just my thoughts.

My theory about the young men in the video is that the people responsible had their grandmas tied up in a garage somewhere, but I could be mistaken.

Some of the most racist white people I've ever known "grew up" with black people.

Same for the ones whose best friends, and spouses, are.

There were Black people in Birth of A Nation, too, so I suppose that makes it only partially racist. /eyeroll

People are so lazy when it comes to thinking even basic thoughts on this subject.

Here's the real reason why the video will fail and it's a shame, given the egregiousness of its content. Nobody knows whom to vote for.

@Patrick. Of course that is racist. It's some of the purest kind of racist messaging there is short of saying flat out,"Our Race/Ethnic group is better than yours." But instead of making that clear a communication, they instead employed some of the most grotesque of racist sterotyping to make a thinly, less than minimally disguised, patently racist negative assocaition.

A vote for this candidate is a vote for scary black people. You don't like scary black people, do you? Then don't vote for her.

That racist ad is as (not exactly) subtle as the racist propaganda that Disney produced during WWII. Granted, they had much better production values, and budgets and talent.

And OhCrap. We are now living in the post "Citizen's United," era of the superpac. As long as these jokers don't affirmatively support a certain candiate, they can raise lots of money and smear lots of people and not have to track their contributions the way a real campaign has to. If you think attack ads were bad in the past, I have the one word answer from Wednesday Addams for you.

"WAIT!"

I knew guys in my hood growing up who would do terrible things for crack. Degrading things.

The economy sucks now, but I'd like to think I wouldn't shuck and jive for anybody. Starve me enough and I might, tho.

I wonder if these guys knew the weight of the thing they were trying to lift, know what I mean?

That's embarrassing. The participants must not have known what their contribution would be used for. They just showed up, jigged, got paid and then left, right? They didn't stick around to see the final product, right? No one is so dense as not to see when they are clearly being mocked, right? Right???
